International Students

International applicants seeking admission to the Department of Allied Health Sciences Certificate programs are required to comply with the following admission requirements in addition to the requirements indicated for program application:

Note: The Department of Allied Health Sciences cannot review applications or extend offers of admission to international applicants who have not submitted documentation in keeping with the requirements of the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) as part of the application process. Failure to meet ISSS requirements will result in a revocation of an offer of admission. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact ISSS and coordinate the international student admission process.

Please contact the ISSS Office for information regarding submission of information. Some information is submitted as part of the program application requirements; other information is submitted to satisfy ISSS requirements. Submission office varies with information required.

  1. Information submitted as part of the Certificate program application:

    1. TOEFL: Applicants must be able to document proficiency in English. If you are not a native speaker of English, you must submit evidence of your proficiency in the English language. A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all international applicants and U.S. citizens or permanent residents for whom English has not been the primary language. Applicants may elect to submit results from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) instead. Test results submitted must be dated within two (2) years of the admission date. Test results older than 2 years will not be accepted.
    2. Transcripts: Applicants with education outside of the U.S. or Canada must submit transcripts of all college coursework to a transcript evaluation agency for translation and evaluation for equivalency. International applicants should allow a lead time of six months or more to ensure this evaluation is complete prior to program application.

  2. Information submitted to the DISP Office:

    1. Financial Declaration: Applicants from other countries must submit evidence of adequate financial support to cover the costs of study at the University of Connecticut before a Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019) will be issued. Please refer to the DISP office for the specific requirements and the Financial Declaration Form.
    2. Housing Information: International students are required to submit evidence of housing while studying in the United States. The following links provide information regarding housing options. The Department of Allied Health Sciences provides this information for students but is not responsible for obtaining housing. Students assume responsibility for making and documenting housing arrangements.
    3. Health Insurance: As a condition of admission and participation in the Programs within the Department of Allied Health Sciences, international students are required, at the time of registration, to show evidence of adequate insurance coverage for basic medical, major medical, and repatriation expenses. Students should consult the International Student & Scholar Services (DISP), regarding compliance with this requirement and assistance in enrolling in an approved insurance program.
    4. Physical and Immunization Requirements: Certificate programs in the Department of Allied Health Sciences require a health review and documentation of immunizations in order to participate in the program. Information regarding the health history form (physical) and required immunizations, is furnished by the program as part of your orientation materials. Program policy requires that students complete the health history form and submit the health immunization history prior to the start of the clinical semester.

 

Registering for Classes

New international students with F-1 or J-1 visas must attend the orientation provided by the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) before registering for classes.

Note: before you register for classes, you must meet with your academic advisor to best plan your course schedule. Full-time registration is required by your F-1 or J-1 visa status and must be completed by the 10th day of classes.
